Who I Am
I grew up in Hershey, Pennsylvania where my first living room performances consisted of Billy Joel dance parties, and (aided by my cousin Rachel) a two woman rendition of Camelot. What can I say? My taste is eclectic. Presumably to get me out of the range of breakable objects, my parents put me in dance class and I never looked back.
Growing up, I danced, acted in the plays and musicals at school and dreamed of moving to New York City. I double majored in Theatre and Dance, earning my B.A. from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. That was the final nail in the proverbial coffin, I had to go live the dream.
Since moving to New York, my experience in this city can be summed up perfectly by the great writer and actress Anna Deavere Smith who writes in her book, Letters to a Young Artist, "You just need some dreams and something to fret about and someone to dream and fret with. America, as a nation, I am told, wrote and talked itself into existence. Everything starts with an all-night conversation. Find a spiritual twin to walk the city streets with, to waken the dawn with, to construct a world with."
In addition to working on varied projects from Off Broadway plays to TV commercials, I have my hand in a boatload of creative stuff: I am a NASM-certified personal trainer, teach group fitness classes at The Bari Studio, write for the Bari Blog and Little Red's Well, a "fun, inspired, Zenned-out blog focusing on NYC fashion and philosophy," as well as assist my husband at Craig Hanson Photography.
